f/10 Advanced Coma-Free Optics Building from a classic RC design, Meade has created a new design with the same coma-free pinpoint star images and flatter field that discerning astrophotographers and most professional observatories have come to expect from classic Ritchey-Chrétien optics. Meade's Advanced Coma-Free system also reduces the astigmatism and eliminates diffractions spikes found in classical RCs.
The Ultra-High Transmission Coatings (UHTC) increases total light transmission and image brightness by nearly 20% over Meade's standard coatings. Objects such as stars, galaxies and nebulae will appear significantly brighter.
Zero Image-Shift Micro Focuser allows you to obtain precise image focus with no image movement.
Primary Mirror Lock locks the mirror in place during long-exposure astrophotography.

Smart Mount constantly refines pointing accuracy each time an object is centered and updated. Compatible with both equatorial and alt-azimuth mounts.
Smart Drive provides permanent periodic error correction (PPEC) on both axes by learning and averaging error over the course of one or more training periods, thereby minimizing guiding corrections during long-exposure photographs. PPEC is available on both axes and functions in both polar and alt-azimuth modes.

PREMIUM MEADE® LXD75™ OPTICS
Diffraction-Limited Optics Meade’s Schmidt-Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain optics yield pinpoint stellar images over an extremely wide field-of-view with only half the coma of standard Newtonians of the same focal ratio.
Optical Tube Construction Schmidt-Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain optics are mounted in precision-machined aluminum cells, which are then mounted in sturdy steel tubes which are baked with high-grade textured enamel paint. The optical tube assembly is closed, reducing air currents inside the tube. This prevents distortion of an otherwise sharp image. Plus, a closed tube significantly helps keep the optics clean.
Corrector Lens Fully corrects for spherical aberration and provides pinpoint star images. Water white glass is used in all Schmidt-Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain corrector lenses to maximize light transmission. The use of water white glass results in an increase of light transmission in excess of 10%, as compared to competitive telescopes using soda lime glass.
Individually Figured Optics Schmidt-Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain corrector lenses and mirrors are individually figured to create a superior optical system which is renowned for its exquisite smoothness and performance. Pyrex® Primary Mirror Premium-grade Pyrex mirrors are used in all Schmidt-Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain optical systems, providing exceptional thermal stability versus competing models using standard plate glass.
Fast F/Ratios Meade’s Schmidt-Newtonians have extremely fast, well corrected F/Ratios for short photographic exposure times and wide fields-of-view.
2" Focuser Aluminum rack and pinion focuser allows the user to achieve a precise focus (Excludes Schmidt-Cassegrain).

Series 5000 ED APO Refractors
Meade returns to the high end Apochromat market with a 80mm (3.15") and 127mm (5") Exceptional Dispersion ED glass triplet. For crisp wide field observing and imaging, nothing can beat a true triple-element apochromatic refractor (APO). This is especially true in astrophotography, where APOs have produced some of the most beautiful images of the heavens ever taken from earth. But not all APOs are created equal. Today’s market is filled with semi-APOs (with two lenses instead of three) that don’t bring all the colors to focus in the refractor. Thanks to a two-year design process and a triple objective lens made from the highest quality ED (extra-low dispersion) glass, Meade Series 5000 ED APO Triplets are virtually free of chromatic aberration (color fringing). This means they outperform the most expensive semi-APOs at a fraction of the cost. Expert observers will be delighted by the total absence of color fringing and the scope’s textbook-perfect pinpoint star images. Even beginners will notice the breathtaking high contrast and resolution of a Series 5000 APO. One astronomer commented that the Series 5000 APO “kicked butt on my semi-APO that cost twice as much.” The scope is available as a standalone OTA, or as a package with our new Series 5000 2" enhanced diagonal and an aluminum carrying case.
- Fast Focal Ratio: At f/6 (80mm), the focal ratio of this scopes is tailor-made for fast wide field astrophotography.
- Premium ED Glass: Meade uses the finest Japanese FCD1 ED (Extremely Low Dispersion) glass. Meade Instruments Corporation unveils several technology breakthroughs that the company has integrated into its new LX 400 Advanced Coma-Free Telescope line.
Although the Advanced Coma-Free is a premier optical design, Meade engineers saw opportunities for further improvement. Utilizing a precision polished and figured front corrector lens, the engineers were able to create a superior RC optical system by eliminating the typical secondary mirror support structure which causes diffraction spikes that degrade image contrast and resolution. The corrector lens also minimizes the astigmatism inherent in the traditional RC design. Performance was further improved by incorporating computer- optimized baffling and Meade's unsurpassed Ultra High Transmission Coatings (UHTC™) for maximum image contrast and brightness.
In the hands of the serious astronomer or astro-photographer the new Meade RCX400 is an instrument that will produce razor sharp star images across the entire field of view on par with the best professional observatories.
